This Surprising $2 Cleaner Will Remove Stubborn Mold Stains From Your Shower

Tags:

We can end up using a bunch of different products to remove built up mold in our shower and bathtub, especially when stubborn stains refuse to come off. Well it turns out the best way to clean a shower has been right in front of us the whole time: Simply grab the same cleaner we use for our toilet bowl!

This might sound weird at first, but toilets and showers are the two areas of the bathroom that most easily attract mold. (Click through to discover why you should never use bleach and baking soda combined to wipe out mold.) We’ve all seen how a few squeezes of the cleaner can quickly remove the mildew inside of our toilets, so it makes sense it can do the same for the tub. Plus, it’s way cheaper than buying two or three different products to do the job!

Most of us already have a bottle of toilet bowl cleaner under our sinks, but Kathryn Snearly of the Do It On a Dime blog specifically suggests using Clorox Toilet Bowl Cleaner Clinging Bleach Gel (Buy at Walmart, $1.86). It works great because it contains bleach, which will eliminate any mold spots and disinfect the surface. Also, the gel allows it to stick to shower tiles and grout lines as it sits.

If you have another preferred brand of toilet bowl cleaner, just make sure it also has bleach to get your shower super clean. All you have to do is carefully squirt the cleaner along the grout lines and in the bathtub. This can get a little messy, so Snearly recommends wearing gloves, casual clothes, and a face mask so you’re not inhaling the bleach. Luckily, we have no shortage of those these days!

Once the cleaner is on the surface, gently press a few paper towels into the outer corners of the tub so that the gel stays on those areas. She suggests letting it sit for 30 minutes to one hour. Then remove the paper towels, take a tile cleaning brush (Buy on Amazon, $7.75), and start scrubbing away.

Give the tub and tile areas a good rinse with water from the shower head and it should be sparkling again with no sign of mold stains. Watch her video below to see how well this trick works:

We love that one product can get multiple areas in your bathroom clean — and get you back to taking those relaxing baths and showers in no time!
