Valerie Bertinelli’s Divorce: What This 5-Year-Old Quote Reveals About How She’ll Handle It

Valerie Bertinelli and Tom Vitale made headlines this morning when their divorce filing was made public.

Though the couple’s separation after 10 years of marriage was announced in November 2021 (Bertinelli filed for legal separation from Vitale and cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason), things hadn’t officially moved forward until Thursday, May 12, when Bertinelli filed for divorce.

But how will Bertinelli move on?

‘It’s all about evolving and changing.’

There’s no way of knowing the difficulty of Bertinelli’s situation, but we do know that she loves to share her resilience and positivity with her fans. In fact, in an interview with Closer Weekly from five years ago, the 62 year old shared some wise words that can be applied to many situations in life.

“There are no mistakes!” she said. “I don’t have to be perfect and sometimes a mistake can lead to a great dish. Cooking is all about evolving and changing.”

Though Bertinelli was speaking about her work as a masterful chef and not her relationship, this quote is a valuable lesson. It reminds us to accept the difficult things that happen in life, to find ways to navigate through them, and to learn and grow along the way.

In fact, Bertinelli seems to have a strategy for handling difficult days — and expressed her feelings in a recent Instagram post.

Valerie Bertinelli said she was having a ‘bad day.’

On Instagram, Bertinelli shared that she was having a “bad day.” It’s unclear whether her post was in reference to the divorce, but her commentary came just hours before the news of her divorce broke.

“I’m just having a very … bad day,” she said in response to a comment on Instagram. “But you know what, sometimes we have bad days and then we get over them and then there’s a good day. So, I’m looking forward to the good day.”

Bertinelli’s video was met with kind words from her fans. “So many people love you!” one user wrote.

“You’re amazing. I love how vulnerable and real you are. You give so many people hope,” another added. The sweet sentiments reveal just how important Bertinelli is to so many women — and her resilience in tough times is a quality all of us can imitate.
