Tags:

There’s no one more invincible than a woman fresh from the salon. With her new cut, color, and style, she’s ready take on the world — until day three when tousled waves fall flat and strands start to lose their shine.

The good news is dull hair and greasy bangs are totally salvageable, and everything you need you already own. A short walk to the kitchen is all that’s required of you to not only revive drab ‘dos but also reduce the frequency you have to visit the salon. That means more money in your wallet for fun things like dinners with the husband and treating yourself to a new pair of jeans.

1. Prolong a Haircut With Banana

The fruit’s biotin and potassium fortify and hydrate strands, keeping the split ends that send us straight to the stylist’s chair at bay.

To do: Mash a ripe banana and apply from roots to ends of dry hair. Cover with a shower cap for 30 minutes; shampoo. Use once a week so you can go up to 11 weeks between trims instead of the standard six.

2. Extend Color With Apple Cider Vinegar

Product buildup on the hair shaft can dull color fast, but apple cider vinegar’s acetic acid dissolves that buildup, boosting vibrance and increasing shine.

To do: Mix one cup of apple cider vinegar with one cup of water, pour onto wet strands; rinse. Do twice a month to decrease the need to recolor from every four to six weeks to every six to eight weeks.

3. Preserve Any Style With Baking Soda

The culprit behind a ’do that doesn’t last come morning? Moisture at the roots. The easy fix: baking soda. It soaks up any oil or sweat that accumulates overnight while the texture helps keep roots propped up.

To do: Before bed, sprinkle two teaspoons of baking soda onto the scalp; massage in with fingertips. Use nightly to add up to three days to your style.
