Like most moms of twins (and babies who are very close in age), Johnson set up the nursery so that the cribs were side by side. Makes sense, right? That way, each child could see the other as they went to sleep–making for a more secure, cozy bedtime. But once these babies hit toddlerhood, this setup proved dangerous.

Johnson had put the babies down to nap and left the room. Five minutes later, she heard Caleb screaming and rushed in. To her horror, she saw that the little boy had climbed out of his crib and wedged his body in the narrow space between the cribs. While his body fit in the space, his head didn’t–and it took all his energy to hold himself up by his little arms so his body wouldn’t fall through and he’d be hanging there by his head.
