Home Town’s Ben Napier constantly awes fans with his woodworking skills, unique craftsmanship and jaw-dropping home transformations. However, the HGTV star has also impressed them with a personal “renovation”—a commitment to leading a healthier lifestyle and losing 95 pounds. Motivated by his family—including his wife Erin Napier and their two daughters—he adopted better eating habits and incorporated regular workouts into his routine. Here, we break down Ben Napier’s weight loss and why his strategies are sustainable for long-term health and wellness.

Ben Napier’s 95-pound weight loss journey

While everyone’s motivation for losing weight differs, Napier’s high blood pressure diagnosis was the catalyst in his decision to change. Faced with the potential consequences of that discovery, he realized that prioritizing his wellbeing was essential—not just for himself but for his family.

“We’re all trying to be healthier and trying to live better and trying to live longer,” Napier told Entertainment Tonight. “I started just [because I knew] I needed to take some weight off. And then we did an interview… and my shirt wouldn’t stay buttoned and I was like, ‘Oh, that’s a bad look. That is a bad thing.’ I was already working [on my weight] and then that jump-started it.”

He also shared that he wanted to take control of his health before considering prescription medication. “They wanted to put me on blood pressure medication,” he said during an interview on The Tamron Hall Show. “And then I had shoulder surgery. And it’s amazing when you can’t lift weights how much weight you lose really fast. It’s mostly muscle,” he said.

Napier wanted to be healthier for his family

When he’s not working, the craftsman is a family man at heart. Ben and Erin Napier share two daughters, Helen and Mae. Ben decided that he wanted to be there for his entire family, but he started taking his health more seriously in 2019, when Helen was born.

“Bringing Helen home and getting to experience those first few weeks with her and seeing how fast things change with children, it got my attention,” he shared with Today. “She was different every day, and I want to experience as much of her life as possible. I want a long life so I can be there for Erin and Helen.”

Since then, he’s continued to focus on his health and even set up a home gym to help him stay active.

How did Ben Napier lose weight?

Napier took a natural and accessible approach to weight loss. His focus? Simple, effective changes like regular exercise, balanced nutrition and an active lifestyle that anyone can incorporate into their daily routine. These tactics ultimately helped him lose 95 pounds. Here’s what worked for the home renovation star:

He practices yoga

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Napier shared that yoga is his go-to workout. “I do a lot of yoga,” he said.

Yoga can help with weight loss, especially when paired with walking or strength training. It improves flexibility, reduces stress and enhances mindfulness,” says Jennifer Habashy, NMD, MS, assistant medical director at Claya. “A balanced approach (where mindfulness meets movement) helps the body shed excess weight naturally and sustainably.”

He utilizes his home garden

During that interview, Erin also revealed that her husband “built this huge garden at the farm, and he just wants to eat what we grow.”

While fruits and vegetables contain key nutrients, the act of growing your own produce can also help you lose weight. Why? A garden is good for weight loss as it increases mindfulness when it comes to eating food,” says Cristina Del Toro Badessa, MD, a board-certified physician specializing in personalized and integrative medicine at Artisan Beaute.

She adds, “People who garden are also outside more regularly, and they’re active; they squat a lot, which is good for opening your hips, increasing flexibility and promoting longevity.”

Not only does this hobby pass the time, but according to the American Heart Association, gardening is considered a moderate-intensity aerobic activity, allowing you to burn calories just as effectively as a gym workout.

Napier continues to practice healthy weight loss habits

Based on Napier’s conversation with ET, he revealed that he hasn’t quite reached his weight loss goal yet. While he hasn’t disclosed his goal, he’s committed to working hard and seeing positive results. “I’m still not where I want to be,” he said. And when asked if it’s a number or a clothing size, he revealed, “it’s a little bit of both.”
