Yes, we know it sounds too good to be true, but there is scientific proof that snoozing in the buff is really a healthier–even though only 12 percent of adults actually do it. Your goal as you sleep is to stay cool through the night. The cooler you are, the more brown fat you’ll produce. And the more brown fat you have, the more calories you’ll burn, leading to a smaller waist instead of a thicker one.

There are other reasons to ditch your PJs. Staying cool helps you sleep more soundly, with less tossing and turning. The more soundly you sleep, the less cortisol you’ll produce, which also keeps the flab away from your waistline. Another plus to sleeping in the raw? Fewer yeast and bacterial infections. Bacteria like moist, dark places–so if sleeping naked isn’t your thing, at least skip the underwear.
