Finding a bra you like that actually fits can be like finding a needle in a haystack — especially when you’re not sure what it is that you’re looking for. With everything from cups and bands to straps and chest plates to worry about, it’s no wonder up to 70 percent of women have been reported to wear the wrong size brassiere! Luckily, intimates brand Soma has created a tool that just might help to bring that statistic down: Ladies, meet the SomaInnofit smart bra ($25, Soma)!

Rather than heading to a lingerie retailer for an in-store fitting, which can be uncomfortable, to say the least (who wants to de-robe in front of a stranger?), you can use this award-winning tool at home to find your precise bust measurements.

That’s good news, since sports biochemist Jenny Burbage told the New York Times in 2019 that there’s really no standard sizing when it comes to undergarments. “Women are going to be different sizes in different bras,” she said. “I might have three or four different bra sizes based on what bra I’m wearing and what manufacturer that comes from.”

Here’s how it works: After downloading SomaInnofit’s accompanying app on your tablet or mobile device and turning the smart bra on via a large button in the back, you’ll wait for a green light to blink, indicating that it’s ready for use.

From there, you’ll pull the smart bra on overhead and stretch it out over your best-fitting regular bra. Open the app and press “measure.”

Voila — that’s it! Your new device is now equipped to get to work calculating your measurements through its copper, Bluetooth-connecting fibers, which will be positioned at four different points around your chest.

In addition to giving you your stats, the app will also analyze the selection of bras found on Soma’s site to determine which styles will give you the snuggest, most comfortable fit.

Though it’s not meant to be worn as an everyday bra, this measurement tool was designed to be used up to 200 times, as your breast size will often change due to your menstrual cycle, weight, pregnancy, and more.

It can also be used by multiple members of your household, as the app allows for several “unique bra identifiers” that will correspond to each person. No wonder this thing was included in this year’s Oscars swag bag!

Currently, when you add it to your cart at Soma, you’ll also receive $25 off your regular bra purchase.

Please excuse us while we chuck our old, ill-fitting boob holders out the window…
