Anne Hathaway Uses This Amazon Sunscreen to Keep Her Skin Damage-Free
When Anne Hathaway talks sunscreen, we’re all ears. Not only does the Devil Wears Prada actress have super fair skin, she takes her sun care seriously — and for good reason.
“My family are all very pale, with an Irish and French ancestry,” she once told The Sun. “My mom had some skin issues and my grandmother had skin cancer.”
Needless to say, Hathaway, 36, doesn’t play around when it comes to sun safety. “I carry an umbrella if I walk in the sunshine and use spray tan if I need to look as if I’ve been sunbathing,” she told the publication. (She isn’t kidding: Photos of her in New York City in 2015 show her carrying an umbrella on a bright and sunny day.)
She also slathers on plenty of sunscreen. “[My mom] has taught me to wear factor 30 sun cream every day,” she said. Her lotion of choice? Actinica London’s Sun Protection Lotion ($35.07). The Oscar winner recently revealed to Allure that she relies on the top-rated Amazon product to keep her porcelain complexion free from damage.
For someone like the Princess Diaries star, who can afford to use any product on the market — she also admitted to The Sun that she indulges in a special lotion designed to regenerate skin cells that runs her $400 a bottle — that says a lot.
Hathaway’s not the only one raving about this imported, waterproof sunscreen, either. Those with über-sensitive skin are singing its praises online. “I have extremely sensitive skin and an eye allergy to sunscreen,” one purchaser wrote. “This is the only product I’ve found that I can use and not have ANY problems.”
Added another: “I have melasma problems. It is truly the best sun screen I have ever used.”
What makes Actinica London’s Sun Protection Lotion so special?
Unlike regular sunscreens, Actinica was formulated to protect people from cancer-causing ultra-violet light and targets high-risk patients who are susceptible to non-melanoma skin cancers (NMSC), such as those who have had an organ transplant, undergone chemotherapy for malignant disease, or have HIV/AIDS.
In fact, a 2009 study published in the British Journal of Dermatology deemed it the first and only sunscreen to demonstrate effectiveness in the prevention of NMSC. The study also found that two years of regular use of Actinica Lotion in organ transplant patients led to a 53 percent reduction of actinic keratosis lesions (those rough, scaly patches on your skin caused by sun exposure) and prevented the development of new squamous cell carcinoma, a common cancer caused by an uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells, or types of NMSC. That’s a heck of a lot of protection!
In addition to the extremely effective coverage it offers, Actinica customers also seem to love this sunscreen’s consistency, noting that it’s “not too greasy” and wears well under makeup.
From the sounds of things, Hathaway was right on the money with this pick. We just might have to check out her other Amazon recommendations for wavy locks (Bumble and bumble Surf Spray, $23.99) and brilliant under-eye care (Chantecaille Eye Masks, $195), too …
