UPDATE (3/6) — Just one day after hearing about Winter Storm Quinn blasting through the Plains and Midwest, we now know the next step the storm is expected to take — hammering the Northeast. Meteorologists are predicting a nor'easter — a storm with a strong northeastern wind that brings heavy rain, snow, and strong winds — to hit the region Wednesday.
Though the exact track of the storm is still uncertain, snow could start to spread into the Northeast as early as Tuesday evening and could last up until Friday. Some regions might get between 18 and 24 inches of snowfall, but only time will tell. If you live in this area, now is a great time to check out your local weather forecast — and bundle up!
ORIGINAL ARTICLE (3/5) — What happened to March being the first month of spring? That's what we want to know after hearing about the latest winter storm set to wreak havoc on the northern central part of our country this week.
Winter Storm Quinn is expected to bring blizzard conditions to the northern Plains and a generous helping of snow and wind to the upper Midwest and Great Lakes on Monday and Tuesday, according to The Weather Channel. As early as this morning, areas in Montana, Minnesota, and the Dakotas were starting to pile up with fresh snow. Some of these regions may get up to a foot by the time this storm has passed. And as if heavy snowfall wasn't enough, many areas in the northern Plains will also see high winds — some of which will reach up to 60 miles per hour. Talk about the right time to hang onto your hats — not to mention the rest of your winter outfit!
Blizzard warnings are in effect for parts of North Dakota, South Dakota, and Nebraska, and winter storm warnings have been announced for other parts of the northern Plains and upper Midwest. Meteorologists warn that this big storm may bring difficult travel conditions for many of these areas today and tonight. As a matter of fact, the hazardous conditions have already shut down a 140-mile stretch of Interstate 90 in South Dakota. On top of all that, the winter storm is expected to move further east on Wednesday and Thursday to continue dumping its snow all over the Northeast.
