This may look like an ordinary photo of a woman in a bathing suit at the beach. But there's a powerful message behind the bikini snapshot.
Molly Galbraith, the woman in the picture, realized 2016 was the first year that she hadn't made a resolution that involved changing her body. So she decided to the share a photo marking the occasion with a message of body positivity.
"This [is] not a before picture. This is not an after picture," she wrote in the photo's caption. "This just happens to be what my body looks like on a random Tuesday in December of 2015—it's a LIFE picture."
She described what her body has been through over the years, including not only physical training and lean meals, but also junk food and diseases like Hashimoto's and PCOS. She also noted that throughout her physical and mental journey, many people have offered unsolicited judgments and criticisms of her looks. Some even said they would kill themselves if they had her figure. She writes how in the past she used to wish she looked different. But not anymore.
She wrote, "Today this is a body that is loved, adored, and cherished by the only person whose opinion matters — ME."
