Drinking Water at Room Temperature Will Boost Your Metabolism and Help You Lose Weight

Tags:

It’s safe to say that we’re all trying to drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially when working out more and trying to lose weight. But did you know sipping it at the right temperature can help you shed extra pounds even quicker?

A study published in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism looked at the effects of drinking water in 14 healthy adults. Each participant was given 16 ounces of room temperature water to drink. Within 40 minutes of drinking the water, participants experienced a 30 percent increase in their metabolism. Researchers concluded that drinking 2 liters of room temperature water daily can increase your body’s energy expenditure (which means you can say hello to great digestion, too).

Many detoxes or cleanses involve adding a pinch of cayenne pepper to a jug of water to speed up your metabolism. But, if you’re not a fan of the idea of drinking spicy water, room temperature water on its own is more than enough to boost your metabolism and get rid of your body’s toxins just as well.

Drinking water that’s not super cold has also been proven to ease constipation as research suggests in the journal Gastrointestinal Nursing. The study looked at the after effects that drinking 6 to 7 ounces of moderate temperature water on patients who had undergone gallbladder surgery. Those who drank the water were able to have a much easier time going to the bathroom compared to those who didn’t drink any water at all.

Clearly, beyond keeping yourself hydrated, being mindful about the temperature of your drinking water is the key to kicking your metabolism into high gear to burn fat and lose weight fast. A sure-fire way to measure your water’s temperature is by using an instant read thermometer (Buy on Amazon, $9.66). Room temperature water will register to be about 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Or simply use your best judgement to find that sweet spot between the water being not too hot or cold to enjoy.

Now ditch the ice cubes and start drinking warm water as part of your daily routine!
