4 Quick Ways to Add Value to Your Home This Weekend

Tags:

Are you planning to move one day but want to add value to your home to get the biggest bang for your buck when you sell? Before you go spending money on renovations, new furniture, or potentially unnecessary maintenance, try these simple, low-cost tricks this weekend and see what a difference they can make.

1. Clean up and clear out.

When selling your house, keep it simple. If your home is overrun with clutter and prized possessions, consider placing items in storage before you start showing your home. You want a few personal touches to give your house a warm, inviting feel, but you don’t want so many that your potential buyers can’t picture themselves living there. Give the illusion of space with minimal furniture and only a few hanging pictures and personal decorations.

Remember: Any cleaning up you do now is less work you have to do when you move out! Once your home is cleared of unnecessary items, consider rearranging your furniture. Something as simple as moving your couch to another wall can completely change the look and feel of a room.

2. A coat of paint can go a long way.

Replacing damaged or worn cupboards, doors, and walls can quickly add up — but a new layer of paint is quick, affordable, and will work wonders to refresh your home’s interior.

White and neutrals will help lighten up a space and make it feel larger, but be wary of bold colors that may not appeal to the masses. If you’re only going to paint three rooms, make them the master bedroom, kitchen, and living room. Even just a new coat of paint over your kitchen cabinets can make a world of difference.

3. Scrub from floor to ceiling.

A good scrub will help your house sparkle like new and bring to your attention any areas that may need maintenance. You’ll be amazed what a buff and polish will do to old fittings like taps, light fixtures, and kitchen appliances. Leave things like carpet cleaning until just before your first open house.

4. Make small updates.

Sometimes it’s the little things that will make the most impact. Replace worn toilet seats, clean your windows and mirrors, mow the lawn, and tidy your gardens. Give your driveway a blast with a pressure washer to remove stubborn dirt and mold. It will look as good as new in no time. And of course, place a room diffuser in select rooms to add an inviting scent to your home.

Whether you’re planning on selling ASAP or you simply feel that your home is in need of a refresh, these small things will make a huge difference overall.
