Fight Wrinkles, Hair Loss, and Inflammation With This Tropical Green Smoothie

Blending up a smoothie is one of the best ways to get more nutrients in your diet. The summer is the time for smoothies, in my opinion, for the sheer fact that they’re super refreshing. I turn to a few go-to recipes once the warmer months come along — and one of my favorites is packed with everything you need to fight signs of aging from the inside out.

A Tropical Green Smoothie for Aging Gracefully

My tropical green smoothie contains ingredients that not only taste ah-mazing, but also fight the signs of aging, from wrinkles to hair thinning to inflamed, achey joints. The secret ingredient? Collagen powder.

Collagen is the most abundant protein in our bodies. It makes up our connective tissues and gives structure to our skin, muscles, tendons, bones, ligaments, and cartilage. After the age of 25, however, our natural collagen production slows down. As a result, our skin can start to lose its tautness, hydration, and elasticity. Not only that, but we become more susceptible to weak bones and creaky, achey joints. Collagen even contains some of the amino acids necessary for healthy hair! Thankfully, nowadays you can add a collagen supplement into your daily routine to help replenish your sources of this vital protein to restore skin and hair health, and nourish all your tissues!

The base for this smoothie is coconut water, which is the perfect hydrating beverage for the summer since it contains electrolytes that help balance fluids in the body. Next, you’ll add in a handful of greens — I switch between spinach and kale — which are packed with antioxidants and other nutrients, like vitamin C and fiber. Leafy greens help fight chronic inflammation which can lead to skin aging, joint pain, weight gain, and other, more serious health conditions.

The smoothie’s vibrant tropical flavor comes from my favorite seasonal fruits — pineapple or mango — both of which contain so many beneficial vitamins and minerals. And last but not least, I throw in a quarter of a ripe avocado for added creaminess and nutritional goodness. Avocados are packed with omega-3 fats which improve skin elasticity and hydration, contribute to healthy, luscious locks, and ward off disease. If you’re ready to get sipping, check out the recipe below.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces coconut water
  • 1 handful leafy greens, kale or spinach
  • 1 cup frozen pineapple or mango chunks (or use 1/2 cup of both!)
  • 1/4 ripe avocado
  • 1 scoop collagen powder

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients together in a blender and blend. That’s it!

We hope you love this refreshing summer sip as much as we do. Here’s to beauty from the inside, out!
