There’s nothing better than waking up to a freshly-brewed pot of coffee every morning — I just don’t have the time, which leaves me sprinting through Starbucks’ mobile pickup lane like a madwoman each day. For me, coffee is a lifeline. Without it, I’m cranky, tired, and a little unfocused. I guess you could say the term “coffee-dependent” is an understatement — which is why my mom suggested that I make my very own coffee-scented candle. (She saw the idea on Pinterest and is now obsessed.) I know, I know — I can’t drink a candle. But the scent definitely calms my nerves — and lighting it is much easier than brewing a brand-new pot every time I feel stressed or overwhelmed.
To do this, all you’ll need is a tea light, a few coffee beans (if you can spare them), and a glass bowl.
1. Gather your supplies. Find a (heat-resistant) vessel, like a small teacup, and fill it with old coffee beans.
2. Once you’ve filled your vessel of choice, nestle an unscented tea light in the middle of the beans. You can find tea lights just about anywhere, including Dollar Tree.
3. Light and enjoy! The metal casing will heat up the surrounding beans, which will release the sweet smell of freshly-brewed coffee. If you’d rather take the metal casing off (like my mom did in the photo above), that works too.
And, if you want to be extra fancy, why not use flavored coffee beans, depending on the season? Think pumpkin spice in the fall and vanilla in the summer. If you’d rather not splurge on flavored coffee beans, just pop a stick of broken cinnamon in with the beans. The best part? This little DIY project will only set you back $2, and it’s reusable: Just switch out the tea lights until the candle loses its scent.
