Ever heard of the "triangle of death" on your face? Yeah, us either. And neither did a young woman named Katie Wright, until she made one wrong move on it and ended up in the ER.
Katie Wright had attempted to pick at what she thought was a pimple on her own "triangle of death" — aka the zone from the corners of the mouth to between the eyebrows. The so-called pimple was irritating Wright, especially since it was under the skin. So she squeezed it for some relief and got quite a nasty surprise.
"Within an hour my entire face swelled up and hurt. It felt like something was going to burst out of my skin," she said in a now-viral post. "I went to the emergency room and they said it was a very serious case of Cellulitis, which is a version of a Staph infection, but instead of having a head like Staph, it affects the deep cellular tissues with no main source to attack."
As it turns out, it was a serious infection possibly brought on by a dirty eyebrow pencil brush — not even a pimple in the first place!
And here's where the "triangle of death" comes into play: Since it was in this danger zone on her face, essential nerves and blood vessels that carry blood back to the brain were directly beneath the infection. So there was a huge risk of it spreading to her eyes or even to her brain and causing her to go blind. In the absolute worst case scenario, it could cause a stroke or even kill you if this happens to you. Scary stuff!
If hearing this isn't enough to convince you to stay away from the triangle of death, just take one look at Wright's photo below.
