Trader Joe's Chocolate Chip Cookies Recalled for Peanut Contamination

Trader Joes

Many of us love shopping at Trader Joe's for affordable dinners and quick-and-easy snack foods — but if you or your child has a peanut allergy, you'll want to listen up: Chris's Cookies recently announced a recall on Trader Joe's Chocolate Chip Cookie 12 oz. Bags after a report that Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies were found in a Chocolate Chip Cookie Bag — a simple mistake that could render grave consequences.

The affected products — marked with the lot code: 2060 and date codes "Sell by 03/12/18 through 03/18/18" — were distributed to Trader Joe's stores in Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Northern Virginia, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington D.C., according to the Food and Drug Administration. While the bag is stamped with a warning label alerting customers that the product may contain nuts, "peanuts" is not listed as an ingredient.

Although no reactions or illnesses have been reported to date, Trader Joe's is urging customers who have a peanut allergy and have purchased the affected product to either discard the bag of cookies or return it for a full refund. As for the rest of the affected cookie bags, they've been removed from TJ's shelves and destroyed.

"If you purchased any of the chocolate chip cookies with the specified lot and date codes and have a peanut allergy, please do not eat it," Trader Joe's said on its web site on Friday.

Thankfully, Chris's Cookies realized this packing mistake and is helping do its part to alert customers who may be affected. If you have further questions about the cookie recall, contact Trader Joe's customer relations office. And be sure to spread the word to others you know who may shop at Trader Joe's — especially those who have children with allergies.
