We’ve all felt that twinge so many times it's familiar: You walk into your neighbor’s or friend’s home to see…an utterly spotless everything. Each room and every surface is tidy. You have a brief moment of pure envy, followed by several hours of wondering how in the world they manage to pull that off.
Well, we have good news. You too can wow everyone with a clutter-free existence. It doesn’t take hours of cleaning and organizing. It doesn’t take superpowers. And, no, it definitely is not impossible. All you need is a small trashcan or recycling bin in every room.
Cleaning the unsorted mail off of the side table never happens when you have to take the junk mail into the other room to get rid of it. Same for those crumpled receipts you pull out of your purse in the entryway. But if you’re only a couple of feet from a trash can or recycling bin, you’re much more likely to immediately toss out those tissues and clear the coffee table of months-old magazines.
The same goes for picking up kids’ rooms. Though you’re probably doing more of the tidying than they are (although we’re SO impressed if they clean on their own), it’s easier for them--and you--to clear surfaces when there’s a bin close by.
But we’re in support of you letting your neighbors think you’re superhuman. We won’t give away your secret.
