Adults who work with children want nothing more than to inspire kids to be their best. But what happens when they're a little too inspiring?

Reddit user Shadowyugi wanted to find out, so he asked the question on the popular online forum: "Teachers of reddit. Have you ever noticed a student(s) crush on you? And how did you deal with it?"

Educators from all over came out in droves to answer the question, but one story about a youth basketball coach, an eager little player, and a protective dad is getting the most attention.

Redditor mdicke3 explained that he'd been the object of girls' affection a couple of times. With one of those players, though, things almost turned ugly. He had known her as the hardest-working player on the team, showing up early and staying late to practice. "A coach's dream," he called her. He didn't realize she liked him as more than just her coach until Valentine's Day, when she gave a card to him--and no other coaches.

"It was harmless and cute until I took her out of a game once to get some other kids playing time and she stomped over to the bench, sat down and started crying. When I asked her what was wrong she yelled, 'I thought we were in love! Why did you take me out?' I was in a small gym and everyone could hear her, including her terrifyingly large dad...I'm a fairly tall guy, but this guy was just massive in every sense of the word. After the game he came up to me stone-faced, got right up into my face, and asked if there was anything he should know about."

The coach didn't even have a chance to share his side of the story before the former defensive lineman father made his move.

"He just started laughing and told me he would talk to his daughter about the difference between a crush and love," mdicke explained, adding he almost lost control of his bodily functions because he was so scared! But the coach was relieved the dad had a sense of humor about it all.
