Drinking This Hot Beverage Once a Day Prevents Alzheimer’s
What if there was a way to cut your risk of developing Alzheimer’s or dementia in half–and it didn’t require much extra effort on your part? Wouldn’t you jump at the chance to incorporate it into your daily routine?
Well, here’s your chance. A recent study looked at 957 adults aged 55 and older, and put them through a battery of cognitive tests every two years. After adjusting for medical conditions and physical exercise, researchers concluded that the tea drinkers had a lower chance of developing dementia. How much lower? On average, 50 percent. But the people who carried a gene for dementia cut their risk by 86 percent.
You don’t even need to drink that much of it. Researchers found that just one cup of black or green tea a day does the trick.
This isn’t the first time tea (or coffee) drinking has been found to ward off Alzheimer’s. Scientists speculate the antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties of tea can ward off vascular damage, which cuts off blood supplies to the brain.
