When Steve Irwin tragically died at the hands of a stingray in 2006, he left quite a legacy behind. The "Crocodile Hunter" was famous for his love of animals and also for his devotion to family. Now his beloved daughter, Bindi Irwin, is making sure that wonderful image of her father lives on to this day.
Bindi, now 20, recently gave her followers a sweet trip down memory lane by sharing some resurfaced footage of her father on her Facebook page. This heartwarming video shows the late, great Steve talking about then-newborn Bindi and what being a new dad means to him.
"You know what? I never wanted to be a dad. I couldn't really give a rip," Steve confesses in the video. "And now I am the proudest father, I gotta tell ya." He then becomes visibly emotional as he discusses thinking about his daughter while on the job. "I can't dwell on her for too long or I start bawling my eyes out," he says. "When I go into the field mate, I've got a photo, I've got a photo of me and my daughter and I can just sit there and just start crying, just looking at her."
If you feel yourself getting teary-eyed just reading that, then you better grab a box of tissues before watching the entire footage below:
Every time I watch this clip my heart overflows with emotion. The people that we love are always with us. Love lives on no matter what and I think that is the most beautiful thing about our existence.💛🙏🏼 Thank you, Dad, this moment captured on camera made my whole life. I love you so much. As if the video wasn't moving enough on its own, Bindi's caption somehow made the post even more touching: "Every time I watch this clip my heart overflows with emotion. The people that we love are always with us. Love lives on no matter what and I think that is the most beautiful thing about our existence. Thank you, Dad, this moment captured on camera made my whole life. I love you so much."
What a beautiful way to honor a wonderful father!
