Time to check your space heaters! There's a urgent and frightening space heater recall happening as we speak, and it's important to tell everyone you know — especially new parents.
Vornado Air is recalling 5,000 space heaters in the U.S. due to fire and burn hazards, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). These heaters, which are meant for nurseries, pose a serious risk stemming from a broken motor mount, which can allow the electric heating element of the heater to come in contact with the plastic materials inside and ignite. What a scary thought — especially since these heaters are designed to be kept near cribs, right next to sleeping babies.
The space heaters in question were sold at stores like Bed Bath & Beyond and buybuy Baby nationwide and online at websites like Amazon.com, Target.com, Vornado.com from October 2017 through December 2017 for about $100. The model number on the product label reads "TYPE SUNNY CS EH-1-0090," and the serial number reads "SERIAL NO. SEP17 - 103535."
Consumers who purchased the recalled space heaters are urged to immediately stop using them, unplug them, and then contact Vornado Air for instructions on how to receive a free replacement with free shipping. The company can be reached on the phone by calling the toll-free number 844-205-7978 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday or by visiting its website.
So far, Vornado Air has received five reports of the electric heaters catching on fire. Fortunately, no injuries or property damage have been reported. Let's do our part to help keep our loved ones safe from harm's way by spreading the word!
