If you just received a confusing Amazon baby registry email, you’re not alone. Several Amazon customers who are not (to their knowledge!) expecting a baby got similar messages in their inbox, informing them that someone had bought a gift off their so-called “baby registry.”
The email, typically addressed to “Amazon Customer,” read “A gift is on the way,” and included a link where the customer could view their “thank you” list. For most of the people who received the email, the link redirected them to a page where they could set up a new baby registry. And for others, it simply took them to a broken link. Unfortunately, for the small amount of people that received the emails that actually did have baby registries set up, they likely got disappointed to see that no one in fact had purchased an item off of it.
Understandably, many Amazon customers might be concerned that this could be some type of scam or something that could cause harm to their computer. Some might even think it was a phishing email, especially considering the stock photo of a baby crawling off to the side. But as it turns out, it’s likely nothing to worry about.
The email was in fact from Amazon itself, and and none of the links in the emails have been shown to be suspicious. An Amazon spokesperson said that a technical glitch was what caused the company to “inadvertently send a gift alert e-mail earlier today.” The company is alerting customers who have been affected.
In the meantime, many people have been taking to social media to joke about the mix-up.
