Shannen Doherty Just Made a Heart-wrenching Decision While Battling Breast Cancer

Tags:

UPDATE (3/14) — When Shannen Doherty shared photos of her shaved head last year, we applauded her bravery for being so open about her breast cancer. Now, she’s published something even more revealing.

On her social media, she uploaded an old video that shows actual footage of friend Anne Marie Kortright shaving Doherty’s head. And her reaction proves she’s such a fighter.

“This day….. laughing thru the tears. Thank you @annemkortright for jumping in and doing what needed to be done,” she wrote.

During the clip she laughs, cracking a joke about how her hair makes her look like cartoon character Bart Simpson. Her humor in the face of a terrifying disease–cancer–is a source of inspiration for women.

Today, she’s finished with chemotherapy. We hope she’s cancer-free soon!

UPDATE (2/27) — More good news for Shannen Doherty. The actress has officially finished her chemotherapy treatment! Doherty has been very open with her fans during her battle with breast cancer, and, again, she got brutally honest with her social media followers.

The 45-year-old posted an old photo from October when she first began chemo with the caption: “#fbf to this morning… not that long ago. Last day of chemo. Exhausted. Now that I’m done with chemo and radiation, the waiting game is here. Waiting for test. Waiting to see if I’m clear or not. Waiting for reconstruction. Waiting. I think when one gets cancer, they are always waiting to a certain extent. To those who know… I’m waiting with you. #cancerslayer 🎀”

And we’re waiting with Shannen with our fingers crossed that she gets back a clean bill of health. She truly is a #cancerslayer.

UPDATE (1/17) — Finally some happy news for Shannen Doherty. The actress finally finished up an aggressive round of radiation while battling breast cancer–a huge milestone for her. The 45-year-old first began treatment in November, and now that the ordeal is over, she treated herself to a new cut and color at her favorite salon in Beverly Hills.

Soon after, she was spotted out and about running errands with a happy, healthy-looking face and her new ‘do.

Please stay well, Shannen! We’re all rooting for you.

UPDATE (1/6) — Shannen Doherty is giving her fans a brand-new, up close and personal look at her battle with breast cancer on Instagram. The actress shared an intimate photo of herself next to her machine for radiation therapy, which she has now named “Maggie.”

In the caption, she paid a touching tribute to Maggie: “I’ve seen Maggie five days a week for what seems like forever. We have a love/hate relationship. I love her because she’s part of the life saving treatment I’m receiving. It’s astounding how far we have come with technology. One day, Maggie will be retired and the cure will be found. Things like immunotherapy are the future but for now…. it’s me and Maggie. I’m seeing her twice tomorrow so that I can wrap this phase up faster.”

We’re all rooting for you, Shannen! (And Maggie.)

UPDATE (12/16) — Shannen Doherty just proved (again!) that her spirit won’t be dampened during her courageous battle with cancer. The actress’s post about an awkward encounter with a stranger who tried to cancer-shame her has totally reaffirmed just how strong, sassy, and smart she can be.

While riding in an elevator after having a radiation treatment, Doherty mentioned she was exhausted. A stranger overheard and suddenly backed with a horrified look on her face–and now it’s Doherty who has a message for this mystery person.

“Just a heads up…. 1. You can’t catch it 2. The radiation won’t leak out of me and go into you. Hope that helps,” she bravely wrote on Instagram.

Just some more truths from this cancer slayer!

UPDATE (12/14) — Finally some happy news for Shannen Doherty. Despite feeling “tired” after a round of radiation while battling breast cancer, the actress still found herself up for Christmas shopping yesterday. The best part? She decided to bring her loving mom along with her for the fun, as she detailed in a sweet Instagram post.

“I love the holidays,” she wrote.

Enjoy your shopping and get well soon, Shannen! We’re all rooting for you.

UPDATE (11/21) — Shannen Doherty is not shying away from sharing the most personal experiences about her battle with breast cancer. And that includes preparing to undergo radiation treatments.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, the actress opened up about her CT scan, which was needed to do mapping for the radiation plan.

She wrote, “This scared me so much. Not sure why. Was supposed to get it with contrast but the minute they started looking at which vein to use I started crying. Full panic attack.”

But despite the terrifying moment, she was brave enough to leave her followers with an uplifting message.

“I felt sorry for myself for a minute. Then stopped and reminded myself of how lucky I am,” she wrote. “Thank God my new radiation oncologist decided to try without contrast so I would calm down.”

We’re keeping her in our thoughts and prayers as she embarks on this new chapter.

She recently shared a picture of herself in bed and revealed that when it comes to facing days of chemo treatment, bravery and fear go hand-in-hand. “Strength gets us thru but every once in awhile, you just want to hide in bed and let chemo day pass you by,” Doherty wrote in her Instagram post.

UPDATE (8/11) — Shannen Doherty announced that her breast cancer has spread to her lymph nodes, after undergoing a single mastectomy in May. “The unknown is always the scariest part,” she said. “Everything else is manageable. Pain is manageable, you know living without a breast is manageable, it’s the worry of your future and how your future is going to affect the people that you love.”

Shannen Doherty has revealed that she’s cut off her hair and shaved her head as she continues to battle breast cancer. The Beverly Hills, 90210 star, who first announced her diagnosis in August 2015, took to Instagram on July 19 to update her fans on this next step of her journey.
