They might be TODAY anchors, but Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie are moms first. That said, being away from their kids during the Olympics hasn't been easy. In a new interview, the co-hosts opened up about what it's like being in South Korea while their little ones are at home.
Savannah, who is a mom to three-year-old daughter Vale and one-year-old son Charley, shared, "I mean, it's an adjustment. There's no question. When you're a mom, your heart is always where your kids are."
Being away must be especially hard for Hoda, whose daughter, Haley Joy, turned one on Valentine's Day. "Savannah's daughter just FaceTimed her and it was the cutest thing," Hoda shared with Entertainment Tonight. "She was playing Bananagrams, and it's a moment in her life. She was spelling words and it was like the coolest little moment and that will sustain us. You get one of those and you go, 'OK.'"
Sweetly enough, the moms are sticking together during this fun-yet-difficult time. "We're lucky, we don't travel all that often," Savannah added. "This is unusual that we're gone this long, so we're holding onto each other, and we're having a great time and being in the moment — and we're going to race home to those babies."
In a previous exclusive interview with Closer Weekly, Katie Couric shared how excited she was for Hoda and Savannah to co-host the Olympics together. “I did it for 15 long years and really loved it, but it’s nice to pass the torch,” she shared.
And, as expected, Savannah and Hoda are having a blast at the event! "Hoda is totally in her element, because she's everyone's greatest cheerleader," Savannah said. "She really gets to know the athletes and their families, and we all do, and we really love that."
She added, "We're on the same team, we're all rooting for Team USA, and I think it's a great thing to share. The Olympics are always a cultural event because we're all watching, we're all in it together. We all care. We're all rooting for the same team and I hope that feeling really lasts."
