Actress Sandra Bullock just proved her "Miss Congeniality" title was well-deserved after her random act of kindness went viral.

The Proposal star donated $5,000 to an elderly man who was down on his luck, raising awareness for the senior's pitiful living conditions and inspiring others to chip in, too.

Svend Petersen, 89, is the long-time pool manager at the Beverly Hills Hotel. During an interview with CBS-2, Petersen talked about his upsetting situation. The 89-year-old is homeless and spends most nights sleeping in his car or hopping from motel to motel.

“Sometimes I go three or four days without food,” Petersen said. “As long as I have something to drink, I’m happy.”

A friend of Petersen's set up a GoFundMe page, which details the senior's heartbreaking situation. After being pressured into selling his home, Svend has been hounded by the IRS ever since. His friends were asking for only $5,900 so they could put a downpayment on an apartment, as well as pay for three months of rent and some groceries for Svend. According to the page, Svend "was recently hospitalized for an infection They drained spinal fluid and now he is slowly recovering. All of this stress and instability is taking a toll on his health." How incredibly sad.

But thanks to Bullock and the sheer generosity of people all over the world, donations right now sit at $63,521. Wow! The 52-year-old actress left a sweet message for Petersen that her 7-year-old son Louis wrote: "Everything is going to be okay."

With more donations still pouring in, Svend's friends have been able to set up an appointment with an optometrist so Svend can also get his broken glasses repaired.

Mercedes Kennedy, Thomas Marinello, and Art—the three friends who set up Svend's GoFundMe page—have posted constant updates about Svend's condition. After his glasses are fixed, they plan on getting him to a hearing specialist so he can get fitted for a hearing aid. They're also looking into a lawyer who can fight the realtors who swindled Svend's home from him. Svend is still on the hunt for a suitable apartment, but things are looking up for him!

What an inspirational story! More of this, please.
