Meghan Markle Flies to Texas to Visit the Memorial of School Shooting Victims 

Meghan Markle traveled to Uvalde, Texas yesterday to honor and mourn the victims of the Robb Elementary School shooting. The incident took place on Tuesday, when an 18-year-old gunman entered the school and killed 19 young students and two teachers.

The Duchess of Sussex lives in California with her husband Prince Harry and their two children, but on Thursday she was seen laying flowers at a memorial outside Uvalde County Courthouse and kneeling at the cross for 10-year-old victim Uziyah Garcia, clearly distraught.

She also donated two crates filled with food, beverages, and desserts at a community center hosting a blood drive.

The unannounced trip was not a PR opportunity for the Duchess. Rather, it was undertaken in her personal capacity as a mom. According to a spokesperson for the Duchess, Meghan intended “to offer her condolences and support in person to a community experiencing unimaginable grief.”

Blood drive volunteers told Buzzfeed News they did not even recognize Meghan as the person offering them donations, and didn’t learn who she was until after she had departed.
