Abbey van der Plas has made it her mission to rescue pit bulls. The New Zealand native runs a shelter in Christchurch, and a few weeks ago, took in a stray that was found wandering the streets. The pittie, whom van der Plas named Nala, was shy and fearful, and cowered in the corner of her cage. For two days van der Plas tried to coax Nala out of her shell and win her trust. Nothing doing.
On the second day, after a fruitless five hours, van der Plas called in her secret weapon: her son Zack. Just watch Nala change in a SPLIT SECOND as soon as she sees the boy!
NEW ARRIVAL - This girl arrived with us a few weeks ago. She had been wandering the streets for some time and was extremely shut down and terrified. I spent her entire first & second day sitting on the floor trying to gain her trust. I took hours and hours of footage trying to catch 'the moment' that she decided to trust me. She wasn't having a bar of me, just sat at the back of the run trembling and growling. Then I bought in my secret weapon and the magic happened right before my eyes!! ❤️Posted by Christchurch Bull Breed Rescue on Thursday, March 24, 2016
Nala has moved into the van der Plas household, and is happiest when she's with Zack.
"She needs some confidence building, but she's a super sweet girl and one day soon some family will be lucky to have her!" van der Plas wrote on the organization's Facebook page. We agree!
