UPDATE (4/13) -- Yikes! Just after we read about the explosive claim in the new Prince Charles book that the royal disapproved of photos Prince William and Kate Middleton took while on their first tour of North America as newlyweds, we learned about another big allegation involving Prince Charles and Prince William. And this one involves the throne.
Specifically, Sally Bedell Smith, author of Prince Charles: The Passions and Paradoxes of an Improbable Life, asserts that Prince Charles will be king after Queen Elizabeth II. While Prince Charles is next in line for the throne when Queen Elizabeth II passes away and has been preparing to be king his whole life, many have speculated on whether Prince Charles would step aside to make way for Prince William to be king instead. According to Smith, he will likely do no such thing.
"Charles will be King and Camilla will be Queen," she says. "They will not skip over to William, who is being groomed to become King probably in his late 40s or early 50s."
In Prince Charles: The Passions and Paradoxes of an Improbable Life, the author Sally Bedell Smith claims that Prince William and Kate Middleton "irked" Prince Charles while they were on their 2011 North American tour. Apparently, Prince Charles dismissed the royal pair's trip to California and Canada for having too many photo opportunities.
Smith writes that Prince Charles "wasn't pleased with the camera-friendly couple" and considered the photos from the 2011 North American tour to be "tasteless."
Smith also claims that Queen Elizabeth II had acted with more understanding toward the couple, fixing their wedding list in order to please her grandson. Smith writes that she said of the list, "Get rid of it...Start from your friends and then we'll add those we need to in due course. It's your day." This reportedly meant even slashing two prime ministers from the original list.
Yikes! Well, if the part about Prince Charles thinking the tour photos were “tasteless” is true, we definitely couldn’t disagree more.
Look at how cute they are zipping each other's jackets up in Canada.
And how much fun they're having at the rodeo.
And how could anyone not love these special hockey jerseys they received from Team Canada?
Well, if the rumors are true, we hope that Prince Charles has changed his mind!
