We all know the the love story of Princess Diana and Prince Charles was far from idyllic. While there are certain things to which we can chalk up their divorce—Prince Charles' relationship with Camilla Parker-Bowles, Princess Diana's reluctance to live by the royal family's rules, and disapproval of Diana from other members of the royal family—there are some surprising secrets that might have affected moods behind the scenes.
According to a Paul Costelloe, Diana's personal designer, Prince Charles might not have ever given Princess Diana a single flower during their entire marriage. When Costelloe would visit Diana, she'd be "thrilled" if he brought her flowers, he told the Sunday Times, a British newspaper.
"I would go to Kensington Palace and bring her a bunch of flowers each time. She was so thrilled. I don't think [Charles] ever gave her a flower."
Yikes! Hopefully, Costelloe was exaggerating, because Charles would have had an ample number of opportunities to spoil his wife during their 15-year relationship. Christmas, Easter, Valentine's Day, her birthday—we hate to imagine those holidays without gorgeous blooms around to brighten the mood!
Given Prince Charles' love for gardening, it's doubtful that Costelloe's claims are 100 percent true. When the Prince bought Highgrove House in 1980, "he set about pouring his ‘heart and soul’ into transforming its 25 acres of barren grounds," according to the Daily Mail. With 25 acres, it's hardly likely Prince Charles couldn't find room to plant just one flower for Diana.
Costelloe also made headlines recently for criticizing Kate Middleton's style, which we happen to think is very beautiful and classy. However, according to Costelloe, the Duchess of Cambridge's fashion is "disappointing" and "not as individual as Princess Diana." Sir, we beg to differ—we think each lady's style is gorgeous and classy in its own way!
