Naomi Judd Says Spiritual Advice From Oprah Changed Her Life

Naomi Judd opened up to First for Women about the wellness strategies that keep her feeling and looking her best at 72 — and shared the spiritual advice Oprah gave her that changed her life.

After decades of juggling tour dates on the road, she admits she is relishing the simple pleasures of life at home in Nashville. “I don’t make life too complicated,” the country icon muses. “The older I get, the more I fall into loving my routines,” she tells First. “Every morning, I do a gratitude reflection when I get out of bed. I recognize how lucky I am to live in America — to have the freedom to do whatever I want to do that day. I think about what my little projects might be, what my missions are, and I make resolutions for my day.”

“Oprah told me once, ‘Naomi, if you only read one book this year, you need to read The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle,’ and boy, she was right,” laughs Naomi. “It’s about present-moment awareness. I have a tendency to not be present and aware of what I’m doing right now.”

“I’m always thinking about what I’m supposed to be doing in an hour or later in the day. But the book taught me that I can’t worry about what has happened because there isn’t a dang thing I can do about it. And I can’t really worry about the future. I try to keep my head where my body is, so I’m fully present in my own life.”

To feel vibrant and energized, Naomi relies on a few savvy strategies.
