Children and medicine don’t usually mix well, and unfortunately, Mary Poppins isn’t around to rescue us every time our kids get sick. But one British mom came up with a medicine hack that’s so simple (and effective!) you’ll wonder why you hadn’t thought of it sooner.
In a now viral Facebook post, mom and nurse practitioner Helena Lee suggests hiding that scary syringe in the nipple of a baby bottle.
“Not one bit got wasted and no tears,” Lee wrote. Pretty amazing — since most parents know that the sticky spills and the tears (the baby's and yours) are the worst parts of the job.
After Lee shared her newfound knowledge, more than 110,000 people shared her post. Several moms tagged their friends while others commented with a few more insider tricks, like using a pacifier-like dispenser or putting the syringe at the corner of the baby’s mouth.
"I'd tried giving him little bits at a time, squirting it all in at once, tried in the middle of feeds, I even tried a spoon but he just gagged or spat it out at me — he then wasn't getting all the dose, so it wasn't bringing his temperature down,” Lee told the Manchester Evening News.
"It was then I remembered seeing this trick. I am completely overwhelmed by the response it's had. I just intended to help out a few of my mummy friends on Facebook."
