After 9 Miscarriages She Was Convinced She Would Never Have Kids. Then, Her Sister Made a Joke

Tags:

All Melissa Kayser wanted was to have a baby of her own. But after countless fertility and in-vitro treatments and nine miscarriages, she’d had enough. Babies just weren’t in the picture, she thought. Then, at what might have been her lowest moment, Melissa’s older sister Lisa Auten opened her mouth to crack a joke that changed her life.

“I was devastated because you think as women we are literally born to do one thing and that’s to reproduce and when you can’t do that one thing you feel like a failure,” Kayser told Inside Edition.

Doctors suggested Melissa look into finding a surrogate, but she wasn’t sure if she “could emotionally handle another woman being able to carry my child.”

Trying to lighten the mood, Melissa opened her mouth and said, “I’ll let you borrow my uterus,” and from there it completely snowballed. Lisa said okay, and had two of her embryos implanted in Melissa. After carrying her nieces to term, Melissa delivered twins Ashlynn and Tierney. So sweet!

Even though Melissa has no desire to be a parent, she enjoyed the pregnancy and the bond she forged with her nieces. “I have a connection to them, as they’re my nieces. I think that’s a fear of surrogacy, that you become overly attached,” Melissa told Omaha station KETV.

“Every day I am in awe. You hear women say you don’t really know love until you have children. They really do complete me,” Kayser told Inside Edition. “There’s never any words that I can say to thank her for what she did. She gave up a year of her life so that we could have a family. I could never repay.”

What an amazing story! One day, little Ashlynn and Tierney will learn about their aunt’s and mother’s sacrifices. How great is it that they will grow up together witnessing the amazing bond their family shares? More of this, please!
