Do you remember your first kiss? Chances are you can't say that the person you ended up smooching is now going to marry into the British royal family. But that's the case for Joshua Silverstein, the first boy that princess-to-be Meghan Markle ever kissed. And, fortunately for us, Silverstein remembers the entire story.
Back in 2013 when Markle's claim to fame was simply playing Rachel Zane on the TV show Suits, she sat down for an interview with Larry King and revealed that she and Silverstein shared their first kiss when she was 13. "It was in LA ... I was 13, it was like a summer camp, and I kissed him," she said. Fast-forward nearly 13 years later, and Markle is — as we know — engaged to Prince Harry. Journalists tracked down Silverstein and discovered that in the last decade or so, he's also pursued a career in front of the camera; Silverstein is a professional beatboxer and performs on The Late Late Show With James Corden and the game show Drop the Mic. But after all these years, he hasn't forgotten the time they locked lips.
"She worked up the courage and just made a move, and I was probably surprised by it and I didn’t know it was going to happen. But it happened,” Silverstein told Inside Edition in a recent interview. “I don’t remember what the kiss felt like. I was 13.” We'll take Markle's bold decision to make the first move as proof that she's always been a bit of a rule breaker!
After high school, the two lost touch, though Silverstein would sometimes see Markle's mom, Doria Ragland at church. Today, Silverstein is now happily married with two children, and he wishes Markle all the best. "To be a person to grow up in LA, no ties with the royal family, or anything across the pond, to marry into it, that’s exciting. I’m happy for her," he told the Daily Mail. "She’s very smart, got a good head on her shoulders, can handle herself, so she’s going to have a fun ride. It’s nice to know that someone from my past is doing so well." Well said!
