Morning Is the Best Time to Apply for a Job, New Study Suggests

If you’re currently seeking a job, chances are that you’re spending hours upon hours crafting the perfect cover letter, polishing up your resume, and filling up your portfolio. While all these parts of a job application are unquestionably important, there’s another aspect you may want to consider: the time of day that you send in your job application.

According to employment platform TalentWorks, the best time of day to apply for a job is the morning — and it makes a pretty big difference when you do. TalentWorks analyzed approximately 1,600 applications that it sent out on behalf of people in recent months, and they found that apps submitted in between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. have a 13 percent chance of getting an interview.

Not only was this point higher than any other time in the day, the applications also saw their odds drop by 10 percent every 30 minutes after that morning timeframe — save for a small bump up during lunchtime at 12:30 p.m.

In case you’re wondering, TalentWorks says the worst time to apply for a job is 7:30 p.m., where applications had just a measly 3 percent chance of landing an interview. (Yikes, we may or may not have made that mistake before.)

It’s worthwhile to note that TalentWorks doesn’t have data on when the employers actually open those applications. But we all know that time stamps exist on emails, application sites, and pretty much everywhere else on the web where you can send in your materials. The company also didn’t have data on why the early applicants see more success in landing an interview, though we think coffee and breakfast may have just a little something to do with it.

Or maybe this is just a case of the early bird catching the employer worm?
