Kids’ Thoughtful Gift Makes Mom Want To Burn The House Down

After a delayed flight and a two-hour commute from the airport, mom Ashford Evans came home to an empty house–a luxury for any parent.

“I opened the door and was greeted by deafening silence,” she wrote on her blog Biscuits and Crazy. “Heavenly, rare, deafening silence.”

As she leisurely unpacked, she noticed what looked like a used bar of soap sitting in a cereal bowl in her bathroom. Thinking it was something her kids had found around the house, she picked up the soap and held it close to her face, inhaling the scent.

She spent the rest of the night occasionally smelling the bar, trying to remember when she had bought this fancy grapefruit soap.

When she brought her kids home the next morning, her daughter wandered into the guest bathroom and emerged holding the soap against her mouth. “This is my favorite,” she told her mom. “I love the way this smells.” Evans agreed, and then she asked her daughter where she had found it.

“Meeny found it in the boys’ bathroom at Tae Kwon Do and brought it home,” she said, referring to her brother. (Evans has nicknamed her three kids Eeny, Meeny, and Miny!)

And that’s when Evans realized exactly what was in her daughter’s hands.

“It wasn’t some upscale boutique $15 soap I had been caressing for the last 12 hours. It was a urinal cake.”

A used deodorizer that had been sitting in the drain of a urinal was exactly what Evans had been holding with her bare hands and putting near her face.

She immediately grabbed the bar and tossed it in the trash, prompting tears from her daughter. As they washed their hands, Evans realized she had two options: “1. Burn the house to the ground or 2. Pretend like it never happened and drink a bottle of wine.”

You can probably guess what she decided.
