In First For Women’s exclusive cover story, fitness guru Kathy Smith, 66, reveals her hydrating secrets in order to make weight loss effortless.

A recent study has emerged from Harvard University revealing that water in a “gel” state can help flush away trapped fat and erase wrinkles. Kathy has discovered ways to bring “gel” water into her daily routine.

Gel water is found inside the cell walls of plant foods. The unique features of this water enable our cells to hold on to hydration more effectively, helping us escape the dehydration trap.

Water-rich foods, such as Kathy’s favorite cauliflower, contain ultra-hydrating gel water. “I’ve been doing cauliflower steaks,” Kathy tells First. “It’s a real treat for me.” To make a cauliflower steak, slice a head of cauliflower lengthwise and rub with olive oil and salt. Then, bake the steak at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 35 minutes.

Another of Kathy’s genius ways to get gel water into her diet? Lemon water. “This is my morning ritual,” she tells First exclusively. “It stimulates the body and helps me wake up on the bright side.” Hydration scientists report that fruit-infused water is more hydrating than regular water because the fruit’s fiber helps the body absorb and retain more gel water.

Kathy also enjoys mixing a tablespoon of MCT oil into smoothies. MCT oil is a healthy fat, which strengthens cells to help them hold onto hydration. “As I’ve been more consistent with this, I can stay focused longer,” she says.
