Strangers No More! Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton Just Met

Prince Harry‘s girlfriend just got one step closer to his big royal family. Her much-anticipated sit-down with Harry’s beloved sister-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge, has taken place–and we’re delighted to hear that the meet-up went quite well!

It seems that Kate Middleton, who celebrated her 35th birthday on Jan. 9, traveled from her Norfolk home down to London on Jan. 10 for the meeting with American actress Meghan Markle, which took place at the Kensington Palace apartment Kate shares with Prince William and their family. Along for the journey was sweet little Princess Charlotte (though sadly, Prince George stayed behind for school).

According to The Sun, their get-together went “really well”—and Markle, 35, was enamored with little Charlotte (well, who wouldn’t be?!). Prince William and Harry were both on-hand for the occasion as well.

“Kate was really looking forward to meeting Meghan and she knew how important it was to Harry,” a source told The Sun. “Obviously Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, died when he was very young so Kate really fulfills that older sister/maternal role. They are very close and he really values her opinion on girlfriends.”

Markle, 35, had already met Prince William (as well as Harry’s father, Prince Charles), but this was her first time getting to know Kate. She obviously took care to make a great impression, even bringing along a thoughtful birthday present for Kate: a leather-bound “dream diary.”

Sounds like these two are off to a promising start as friends–and possibly future sisters-in-law? Only time will tell!
