It's easy to imagine that Jennifer Garner's skincare routine is unattainable if you don't have gobs of money. She is a movie star, after all. But surprisingly, the actress revealed that many of her beauty staples are products you can buy from the drugstore, including her favorite retinol serum.
“You’ve got to find a way to introduce your retinol products,” says Garner in an interview with Prevention.com. “That’s tricky for women because it can make you peel, it can make you red. My skin can be a little sensitive, so I’m loving the Neutrogena Retinol Oil ($23.72, Amazon). It’s kind of a no-brainer at night. It does what it needs to do without turning me red and making my skin angry.”
Retinol is a topical form of vitamin A and is beloved by beauty junkies for its ability to increase cell turnover to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. It also balances the complexion and evens out age spots.
One common complaint people have after trying retinol, as Garner mentioned, is that it can irritate the skin, causing peeling, dryness, redness, and sensitivity. The trick to reducing these symptoms is to ensure the skin is hydrated by using a nourishing moisturizer followed by a sunscreen to protect your already sensitive face. Garner, who is a spokeswoman for the brand, loves Neutrogena's Hydro Boost City Shield Water Gel Sunscreen ($18.97, Amazon), which doubles as a moisturizer with SPF. “It leaves you with that dewy look, so I’m loving that,” she says.
