If there’s one skincare product I can’t live without, it’s a cleansing balm. An integral part of the now famous double cleansing step of the 10-step Korean beauty skincare routine, a cleansing balm is essentially a solid, oil-based makeup remover that works to break down dirt and makeup. Essentially, it works to clear debris from the skin ahead of using a face wash to ensure the most thorough clean.

I first discovered these wonder balms a couple of years back, during the initial stages of the Korean beauty skincare boom and have since made them a part of my nightly skincare regimen. While I’ve tested out a handful of balms over the years, I’m pleased to report that I think I found its holy grail in InstaNatural’s Rose Cleansing Balm ($15.97, Amazon).

I’ve been a fan of InstaNatural’s products for some time, and a big reason is because of the way their products are made. As someone with sensitive skin, I react pretty easily to harsh products, so I look for skincare that’s made with non-irritating ingredients.

InstaNatural prides itself on making products free of things such as parabens, mineral oil, sulfates, formaldehyde, synthetic dyes, petroleum, and unsafe preservatives. Naturally, as a fan of both the brand and cleansing balms in general, I knew I had to give the company’s Rose Cleaning Balm a try.

Made with a key blend of rose extract, coconut oil, sunflower seed oil, and manuka honey, this natural balm was not only able to cut through my makeup with ease, but thanks to all of these hydrating ingredients, it didn’t strip my skin in the process.

Upon applying it, it felt more like a thick, luxurious moisturizer than a cleansing balm. As I began to spread, however, it got to work, taking every stitch of makeup off in the process. Once I had worked it in thoroughly into skin, I added some water to lather the balm — a necessary step — and rinsed my face to reveal my now clean and baby-smooth complexion underneath.

With so many previous cleansing balms leaving my skin feeling a little tight, I was beyond thrilled when I didn’t feel the immediate need to reach for some moisturizer —  a mark of a good skincare product in my humble opinion. Another plus? It didn’t irritate my eyes. One of my biggest complaints about cleansing balms in the past has been the harshness around the eye area, which can quickly lead to a an unpleasant burning sensation. Between the lack of dryness and lack of irritation from this balm, I was hooked.

Though one of InstaNatural’s newest products, the Rose Cleansing balm has already started developing a cult following. With a near perfect rating on Amazon, customers are raving about it.

“I am in love!” one purchaser wrote. “This melts your makeup off and leaves skin so hydrated. The rose scent is a nice touch. It’s not too strong and doesn’t irritate my eyes. … A must buy!”

Another went on to praise its effectiveness at removing even the most stubborn of makeup saying, “It removed my make-up easily. …  I was very impressed and would buy it again without hesitation!”

With a score of skin-friendly ingredients and a formulation that leaves skin clean and silky smooth, there’s a lot to love about this cleansing balm. Suffice it to say, InstaNatural has a winner on their hands — as well as a new devotee in this skincare-obsessee.
