How to Make a Beautiful DIY Mini Succulent Christmas Tree
If you’ve been searching for the perfect Christmas tree for a tiny home or apartment but still haven’t found it, look no further than this ingenious mini Christmas tree you can make entirely from succulents! Succulents are loved by beginner gardeners and seasoned green-thumbs alike for their hardy nature and pretty, structured form.
That makes them ideal for making a compact, living Christmas tree. Unlike other traditional Christmas tree plants, succulents are mess-free (there’ll be no need to worry about pine-needles scattered all over the carpet) and are relatively affordable to buy. Plus, the great thing about this DIY project is that you can easily pull it apart once the festive season is over.
What You’ll Need
- Chicken wire
- Sphagnum moss
- A chopstick
- Pins (floral or sewing, the longer the better)
- Succulent plant cuttings (We suggest: Echeveria, Aeonium, Crassula, Sempervivum, Sedum, Agave, and Cotyledons)
How to Make a Succulent Christmas Tree
- Create a cone shape with the chicken wire and pin it together.
- Fill the wire cone with sphagnum moss, pressing it firmly into the wire so the structure is no longer visible.
- Submerge the moss cone in water. Remove from water and allow to drain.
- To embed the succulents into the moss, take the chopsticks and make small holes in the moss.
- Take a succulent cutting and embed it into the hole, pinning it in place. Repeat this process until the entire structure is covered.
- Don’t forget to pop a Christmas star at the top of the tree to complete the look!
