What’s better than eating pancakes on National Pancake Day? Eating free pancakes on National Pancake Day. Seriously, if there’s one food holiday we’re excited to celebrate each and every year, it’s IHOP’s National Pancake Day — a day filled with warm, fresh griddle-cakes, sweet syrup, and butter. (Lots and lots of butter.) Although the date seems to vary from year to year, the gist of the holiday stays the same: Free pancakes all day long for a charitable cause. This year, IHOP’s National Pancake Day falls on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 — which, lucky for us, is today!

Sure, stuffing your pancakes with cheesecake-inspired filling, chocolate chips, or ooey-gooey strawberry syrup is cool, but we can all agree getting a warm complimentary stack of pancakes is the tastiest deal of all — and that’s exactly what IHOP is offering in honor of National Pancake Day 2018.

National Pancake Day at IHOP

This year, IHOP guests will be able to celebrate the company’s 13th annual IHOP National Pancake Day bash with a free short stack of Original Buttermilk Pancakes from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (with select restaurants participating until 10 p.m.) on Tuesday, February 27. In return for IHOP’s generous offering of delicious heaps of golden pancakes, the company is asking guests to leave a charity donation of any size for the brand’s “60 Days of Giving” campaign.

To celebrate its 60th anniversary year, IHOP is kicking off a 60-day period of activities to raise money for children’s health charities across the nation, including Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and Shriners Hospitals for Children. As if that wasn’t generous enough, IHOP and its franchisees have set an ambitious goal of raising $5 million for children’s hospitals and medical research during the two-month campaign, according to a company press release.

“At IHOP, we think doing good is delicious. Every stack of pancakes we serve on our signature day counts toward helping our charity partners improve the health and lives of millions of children and families across the country,” said IHOP president Darren Rebelez in a statement.

National Pancake Day

Believe it or not, National Pancake Day was originally known as “Lumberjack Day.” In 2005, Marianne Ways and Coleen Venable created the day as an excuse to eat an absurd amount of pancakes and waffles with friends without feeling guilty. So many people were into the idea that they began dressing up in plaid and wearing fake beards in order to mimic the lumberjack style. Other ways to celebrate Lumberjack Day included going out for pancakes/waffles with all of your friends, joining the U.S. Log Rolling Association, building a treehouse, and wearing a George Washington costume. It wasn’t until 2013 that Lumberjack Day was renamed National Pancake Day.

One free short stack of Buttermilk Pancakes on February 27, 2018 from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.; participating restaurants and hours may vary. Dine-in only. Check with your local IHOP restaurant for details. Limit one offer per guest.
