Do you often embark on a cleaning blitz only to discover, moments later, that everything has fallen back into a state of chaos? We’ve all been there.
The bedroom seems to be the worst offender. Between making the bed every day, putting clothes away or in the wash and keeping it clutter-free and clean, if you let just one of these jobs go by the wayside, it can end up looking like a total mess.
Here our our tops tips for cleaning a bedroom and ensuring it stays pristine.
If you’re bedroom needs a complete overhaul, start in a small area first that doesn’t take hours to clean – it will help keep you motivated and once that section is finished you will be more inclined to move onto a harder area.
Don’t Start The Next Section Until You’ve Finished The First
Do one area at a time. Don’t jump from section to section, as this can make you loose motivation really quickly and you won’t finish the job.
Storage is Key
Invest in some stylish storage baskets or boxes for little nick knacks to keep everything neat and tidy (and pretty!). This is a great idea for desks.
Use Clear Shoe Boxes
Clear shoe boxes are a great way to store your shoes and keep your closet neat and tidy.
Use a Wicker Basket
Have a decorative basket in your room for dirty washing, this way it stays off the floor or chair and keeps your room looking tidy.
When cleaning out and organizing your wardrobe, if you haven’t worn an item of clothing (with the exception of evening wear and seasonal coats, jackets, etc.) get rid of it, as you’re never going to wear it. Or, if you have friends who are roughly the same size as you, have a clothes party where you swap clothes. You may come away with some great pieces to update your wardrobe without spending any money.
Gather Your Delicates
Go through your socks and underwear and if anything has holes in it or the elastic is looking worse for wear, toss it out.
Dust All The Surfaces
If you have shelves, take everything off, give it a good dusting and then only replace items that you really want or need back in the shelving. Keep some handy storage baskets for any little items and if you keep jewelry here either have something to hang it on or a nice box that you can store it in.
Keep Things in Their Place
Don’t take items into the bedroom that don’t belong and leave them in there, as this just creates more clutter for you to clean. Remove items that don’t belong and make sure if you get something out, return it to its proper place when finished as this will help your room stay clean.
Keep It Up
Set aside time every week to maintain your clean room, whether it be to dust, change the sheets, empty the rubbish; this way it won’t seem as daunting.
Under The Bed Should Be Organized Too
Check what is under the bed and remove everything and invest in some under bed storage to keep everything organised. You can place items in tubs that you may not need to use all the time to save yourself space.
Make Your Bed Everyday
Make your bed every day, as this will also make your room feel cleaner and keep you motivated to keep it that way.
