If living well is the best revenge on your ex, becoming their boss has to be a close second! That's what tons of people on the Internet thought after reading a man's cringeworthy story about working for his ex-girlfriend on the career advice site Ask a Manager.
The man wrote in to blogger Alison Green that while working abroad a few years ago, he began a relationship with a woman named Sylvia. When he decided things weren't working out between them, he abandoned her by abruptly leaving the country they were living in while she was away for the holidays. He didn't even leave a note with an explanation.
In the AAM post, he wrote, "Sylvia was rather emotional and became obsessed with the relationship, tracking me down, even causing various scenes with my parents and friends."
But now, years later, the man has just recently found out that Sylvia is about to become his new boss at a prestigious job.
Yikes! So it sounds like this man messed up pretty bad, right? And now, he's surely got himself into a pickle. But before anyone tried to feel even a little bit sorry for him, he provided quite the startling update to his story that he did not include at the beginning: He actually dated Sylvia for three whole years before ghosting her. And on top of that, the former pair had lived together for two of those years before he packed his bags and quite literally skipped town.
After calling out the man for claiming his ex was "emotional," Green did offer some good career advice: She suggested he contact Sylvia to inform her they will be working together, and warned him that things likely would not go well for him.
Gee, ya think?!
It's little wonder why this post has gone viral, with commenters anxiously awaiting another update from this man about how things go. And it's little wonder why many of them are firmly on Sylvia's side.
