HGTV Unveils a New Show for Chip and Joanna Gaines, Reveals Fate of ‘Flip or Flop’

The popularity of HGTV’s hit show Fixer Upper has cemented the status of fan favorites Chip and Joanna Gaines as the do-it-yourself couple to watch. Double the trouble, double the fun! And thanks to Fixer Upper’s success (it’s Scripps Network’s most-watched series two years in a row) the reality show home redecorators are getting their own spin-off! Well, one of them is…

Joanna Gaines, the design mind behind some seriously beautiful makeovers, is set to star in Behind the Design, a new show that takes an inside look into Joanna’s creative approach.

Joanna shared a video on her Instagram breaking the news to her fans, and explaining that Behind the Design “focuses on each project and you get a more inside scoop of how we came up with a lot of the decisions and the design elements.”

A preview is set to run soon at the end of season 4’s last show with more episodes to follow later in the year. Hopefully, Joanna will takes us through the couple’s beautiful farmhouse and give us a few home decorating tips!

While this TV couple seems to be on the rise, another HGTV duo is testing the waters of divorce: the now infamous Flip or Flop twosome of Tarek and Christine El Moussa. While the couple’s messy split has been well documented, they continue to film together. And thanks to the show’s initial high ratings, Scripps Network, has started looking into new ways to repurpose the show. Therefore, they’ve extended the house-flipping coverage to new couples in Las Vegas; Atlanta; Fort Worth, TX; Chicago; and Nashville, TN.

“The tremendous, consistent ratings success of the original Flip or Flop with Tarek and Christina El Moussa inspired us to take a new look at house flipping programming,” said Allison Page, general manager of Scripps’ U.S. programming and development. “We saw an opportunity to highlight what works in other regions by featuring successful couples that had mastered the art of flipping in their town.”

Considering Texas and Tennessee are hotbeds for country music, we’ve got our fingers crossed there’s a country star cameo or two…or three.
