Whether it’s hot or chilled, we can all agree that there’s something so comforting about drinking a cup of tea. Plus, it can boost our health in so many ways! If you’re looking to switch up your regular brew, we suggest trying rosehip tea. It has benefits that help with alleviating aches and pains, lowering heart disease risk, and weight loss!

This vibrant red tea is made from rosehips, which are a fruit grown from wild rose blossoms called Rosa canina. It’s native to most of Europe and parts of Africa and Asia. Rosehips can be used in many ways, including drying and crushing it into a fine powder and steeping with hot water for tea.

Although finding relief for our health woes can seem tricky, rosehip tea is here to make things easier. A study published in the journal Australian Family Physician noted that rosehip fruit is packed with vitamin C and anti-inflammatory compounds like galactolipids. Researchers credited those properties for soothing osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and inflammatory bowel disease in participants after taking 2.5 grams of rosehip powder daily for three months. Luckily, you’ll get those same pain-relieving perks in tea form as well!

Drinking rosehip tea has an additional benefit to boost heart health. Research published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences found that consuming rosehip extract was linked to reduced plasma triglyceride and free fatty acid levels in mice thanks to the fruit’s natural anti-lipidemic effect. Essentially, it decreased their cholesterol, which lowered their heart disease risk. It’s always important to protect our heart with simple habits like regularly sipping beverages like rosehip tea.

Adding this drink to your diet might also help you shed a few extra pounds. A study published in Diabetes, Metabolic Syndrome and Obesity: Targets and Therapy looked at the obesity-fighting effects of consuming rosehip every day after 12 weeks. The study’s authors found that participants were able to burn fat and lose weight thanks to a metabolism-revving flavonoid called tiliroside. It’s known for having a gentle floral flavor with a tart aftertaste, so adding a smidge of honey wouldn’t hurt to balance it out. From there, all there’s left to do is sip and enjoy the hard to beat health benefits that come along with rosehip tea!
