Heads up: There's a new hair dryer recall happening right now as we speak. Frighteningly enough, the reason for the recall is a burn hazard.
ISO Beauty has recalled nearly 73,000 hair dryers due to a risk of the cords becoming brittle near the base of dryers, posing burn hazards to customers, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). So far, ISO Beauty has received 35 reports of hair dryers smoking or sparking. This includes two reports of flames coming from the dryers. Sadly, it also includes three reported burn injuries to hands or fingers. Ouch!
Specifically, this recall involves the Ionic Pro 2000 and 2000W hand-held hair dryers, which were sold at websites like Groupon.com, Target.com, and Amazon.com for between $30 and $40 from March 2013 through January 2018. The dryers were sold under the ISO Beauty and Proliss brand names and have the model number HD-1820 and the name "ISO" or "Proliss" printed on the bottom rears. They were sold in the following colors: black, white, white pearl, peacock, white zebra, pink leopard, blue, and giraffe.
Considering the serious burn risk, it's worth double-checking your hair dryer right now, even if you don't think yours fits the description. If you find out you did in fact purchase one of the recalled hair dryers, CPSC urges you to immediately stop using it and contact ISO Beauty by calling 800-490-5919 or visiting its website for more information about removing the cord. You can also ask the organization about receiving a refund in the form of credit for a replacement hair dryer.
Even if you didn't buy any of the recalled hair dryers, it's worth spreading the word to anyone you think might own one. Let's do our part to help keep our loved ones safe!
