Mason Jar Soup Is the Meal Prep Hack You’ll Use All Winter

Tags:

Nothing tastes better in the winter time than a bowl of hearty, warm soup. While it’s absolutely delicious, soup can take a while to prep and cook from scratch, but sometimes you want a meal that’s more filling (and healthier) than what you can just get in a can. That’s where this quick mason jar soup hack, which can be part of a meal prep routine, comes in handy.

Meal prepping is great because it allows you to cook delicious foods in bulk and then separate them out into small, controlled portions that are easy to track. Many meal prep recipes combine a protein, a veggie, and another side, but if you’re a soup lover and still want to get in on the action, it couldn’t be simpler.

On the subreddit r/MealPrepSunday, a redditor by the name of Jon showed off his favorite quick hack for getting great homemade soups on the go. He simply takes any recipe he wants, like this ramen recipe from Serious Eats, preps all of the ingredients, and sticks them in a mason jar to refrigerate. When he’s ready to eat his soup, he just takes out the mason jar, boils hot water, pours it over his soup creation, and puts it in a larger bowl after a few minutes. Voila, easy noodles!

With this hack, the possibilities are truly endless. You can make a filling split pea soup. chicken rice soup, or even ramen with kimchi. If you want to add more protein, you can easily cook chicken or ground beef in advance, store it until you’re ready to use it, and take it out when it’s time to add the boiling hot water to your jar.

No matter what though, these soup recipes allow your imagination to run wild. And it also doesn’t hurt that the mason jars look super cute, too!
