Google already makes our lives easier when it comes to important choices we make every day — like giving us excellent restaurant options when we’re figuring out where to eat. And now, the company just took a huge step to cut the middle man out of one restaurant decision-making factor: the dreaded wait time.
Let’s face it: You could dine like a queen at your favorite go-to spot and still be less-than-thrilled about having had to wait an hour (or more) before sitting down to your table. But calling ahead of time can be annoying, time-consuming, and even a little nerve-wracking for those of us who are phone-shy. Luckily, Google just announced that it will tell you what the wait time at your favorite restaurant is at any moment of the day — and you barely have to lift a finger to find out.
It’s super easy to use the new Google Maps feature on both desktop and mobile search. All you have to do is type in the business name, select the specific location you want to go to, and scroll down to see the “popular times” graph. Based on historical data, Google will tell you how long you can realistically expect to wait for your food to be ready.
How neat is that?
Google currently has available average wait times for approximately 1 million restaurants and is hard at work on adding more. In other exciting news, Google plans to add wait times for grocery stores too, which will be super convenient for holiday meal planning and shopping during this hectic time of year.
