Caramelized Onion and Cheese Bites

If 10 minutes is all you’ve got, then this Caramelized Onion and Cheese Bites recipe might be your saving grace come game day.

1. Top Sea Salt & Cracked Pepper Pretzel Crisps with caramelized onion and a sprinkle of cheese.

2. Melt under a low broil setting in the oven. Remember, broiling is for quick dishes. If you’re not careful, your Caramelized Onion and Cheese Bites could burn!

Another great way to spruce up this recipe would be to add a little bit of crunchy bacon on top before you turn the broiler on. You could use freshly cooked bacon or bacon bits, to save time.

How to Caramelize Onions Quickly

Like refried beans, caramelized onions are also easy to find in a jar. You should keep in mind, however, that jarred or canned caramelized onions may contain sugar or jelly. If you can’t find jarred onions, you’ll have to do it the old-fashion way. But don’t worry, it’s not too difficult. Just be sure to actually let the onions caramelize. Although this is a time-consuming process, the taste will be worth it in the end. Once your onions are finished, they should be a dark, rich brown color.

Not an onion fan? Other veggies, like carrots, celery, and fennel make for great substitutes. Just sprinkle a little brown sugar over them to give them the same sweet flavor you’re looking for.
