The problem is that these companies aren't subject to the same government scrutiny as other drugs -- and the FDA is now taking notice after a hundreds of people have reported negative effects from natural remedies for yeast infections, colds, and asthma. Some of the products include Zicam (nasal gels and swabs for colds) and Pleo Homeopathic (yeast infections).

But even scarier are the natural teething gels and tablets sold over-the-counter for babies and kids. Over the past few years, 400 cases of kids having seizures, fevers, tremors, nausea, and even dying have been reported to the FDA, which issued a statement warning parents to stop buying them. These natural gels for sore gums contain belladonna, a poisonous plant. Even though companies are supposed to dilute the belladonna until it's harmless, there's no real way to check to see if this is happening until these remedies are on the market. And by then it's too late.

So before you take any type of natural remedy, talk to your doctor. There may be a safer cure for you and your family.
